Frequently Asked Questions

What is a port scanner?
A port scanner tests whether TCP ports on a remote host are open (accepting connections) or closed (refusing or not responding). It works by attempting a TCP connection to each port and measuring the response.
Why would a proxy port show as closed?
The proxy port may be blocked by a firewall, the proxy service may be offline, or the host may be dropping packets silently. Increase the timeout to rule out slow responses before declaring a port closed.
What is the difference between open, closed, and filtered ports?
Open means the port accepted the connection — a service is listening. Closed means the host actively refused the connection. Filtered means no response was received within the timeout — typically because a firewall is dropping packets.
Can I scan port ranges?
Yes. Enter port ranges like "8080-8090" in addition to individual ports. The tool supports up to 50 ports per scan.
Is this tool scanning from my IP?
No. The scan runs entirely server-side from our infrastructure. The target host sees connections from our server's IP, not yours. This also means the results reflect real-world external connectivity to the target.
Are private IP addresses blocked?
Yes. Scanning of localhost, 10.x.x.x, 192.168.x.x, 172.16-31.x.x, and other private ranges is blocked to prevent misuse.
